How to open a call
You can reach call detail from any of three entry points:- Dispatch board — click any call card on an active board tab (Pending, Active, Recent, etc.).
- After create — Cadmus navigates to call detail automatically when you click Create Call in the New CFS form.
- Find a Call — use the Find a Call search for closed or historical calls that have scrolled off the board.
App bar actions
The actions available at the top of call detail change based on the call’s current status.Call detail blocks
Call detail is organized into labeled blocks. Each block focuses on a distinct aspect of the incident.Call summary
The call summary block shows the current status, priority, incident type, and most recent updates at a glance. From here you can:- Click Edit Call Details to update priority, type, location, or narrative without reopening the New CFS form.
- View RECENT UPDATES for a condensed activity feed.
Call type and description
This block displays the structured incident type code alongside the free-text Call Description. Use Edit Incident Type to change the type after initial create if information from the field warrants a reclassification.Call intelligence
The call intelligence block provides contextual information organized into three tabs:Location details
The location block lets you manage address accuracy after the call is created:- Edit Address — open the location editor and choose a mode from the same dropdown used when creating a CFS:
- Address — street address with GIS suggestions and validation
- Cross Street — intersection when no exact address is known
- Common Place (Place) — pick from your agency’s saved common-place list
- GPS Coordinates — shows existing geocoded coordinates when available
- Validate and Geocode Address — re-submit the address to GIS and update the map pin.
- Refresh Address Resolution — pull the latest GIS result without changing the stored address.
- Copy GPS coordinates — copy the geocoded latitude/longitude to the clipboard for field communication.
Units on call
The units block shows every unit currently assigned to the CFS and their real-time status.
The AVAILABLE UNITS row at the top of the block lists units that can be immediately assigned. Click a unit in that row to dispatch it to the call without leaving call detail.
Agency desk virtual units (for example MSHP-DESK) also appear in this row and in Assign Unit. Clicking or dragging an agency desk uses the same UX as a field unit, but Cadmus runs agency assignment instead — the agency is added under Assigned agencies and receives its own CFS number. Agency desks are not logged on through Login User (F2).
Reporting party and callers
This block displays the primary REPORTING PARTY and any additional callers.- Click Query next to a person record to run a CJIS person lookup.
- Click Add caller to record additional callers that contact the center after the call is created.
Persons and vehicles
Use this block to document everyone involved in the incident, in addition to the reporting party. Person roles available:- Suspect
- Victim
- Witness
- Driver
- Passenger
- Other
- View — open a read-only details dialog (available even when the call is closed; you do not need to open Edit just to inspect fields).
- Query — (law enforcement) run a CJIS person or vehicle lookup tied to this call and subject.
- Review Query — (law enforcement) when a prior query is already associated with that person or vehicle on this call, reopen the saved CJIS result instead of starting a new query.
CJIS query history
Queries started from call detail appear in the call’s CJIS Query History. The icon and label on each entry show whether the query is pending, completed with a hit, completed with no hit, timed out, or failed.1
Find the query
Open CJIS Query History and select Refresh if a recently submitted query is not yet listed.
2
Check its status
Wait if the entry is marked sent or pending. A completed icon means a response arrived; read the accompanying hit or no-hit label.
3
Reopen the result
Select a completed entry to view its parsed response and authoritative raw response. A DOR photo tab appears only when photo information is available.
Assigned agencies
On multi-agency incidents, each involved agency receives its own CFS number and appears in this block. Assigning an agency desk virtual unit from the sidebar or AVAILABLE UNITS row adds the agency here and triggers CFS generation for that agency.- View each agency’s CFS number alongside your own.
- Click Generate report # to assign a report or case number for a specific agency.
- Click Set Primary Agency to designate the lead agency.
- Click Remove Agency to detach an agency from the call if added in error.
Agency status timers
Each agency on a multi-agency call can have its own timer card. Timer cards appear for agencies that currently have a unit on scene on this call — they are hidden when that agency’s units are only dispatched or en route.- Click Status Check Complete to acknowledge a timer check.
- Click Pause checks to temporarily suspend the timer when warranted. The card stays on the call and shows Checks paused.
- Click Resume checks on a paused card to restart that agency’s timer from a fresh interval (same result as the command-line
STATUS ON @Agency). - Use the interval and snooze options to adjust check frequency per agency SOP.
History, logs, and images
This section is the call’s permanent record of everything that happened.- Call Notes
- Audit Logs
- Images
Dispatcher-entered narrative notes attached to this call. Call notes are visible in the call record and may appear on reports depending on agency configuration. Click Add Call Note to add an entry.Restricted CJIS notes: If a dispatcher pastes external query response text that begins with
FROM-MULES, FROM-DOC, FROM-NCIC, FROM-REVENUE, or FROM-NLETS, Cadmus automatically classifies the note as Restricted / Confidential — Law Enforcement only. Law Enforcement agencies see the full text; Fire, EMS, and other non-LE agencies see a placeholder message instead of CJIS content. An orange warning may appear while typing or pasting before the note is saved.Quick actions
The quick actions column provides one-click shortcuts to the most common dispatch tasks:Closed calls
When a call’s status is Closed:- Editing most fields and adding new logs or images is restricted.
- The call remains visible in the Recent board tab for a configurable period, after which it moves to full history searchable via Find a Call.
- Use Reopen Call only in accordance with your agency’s supervisor-approval policy.
Reopening a closed call creates an audit log entry and may require a supervisor PIN or approval step depending on your agency’s configuration.
